Our dynamic Earth is a set of interdependent systems; understanding their interactions requires knowledge that reaches across scientific disciplines.

Earth System Science is part of and for students in the Faculty of Science.
Welcome to Earth System Science! The ESS major is quite flexible in terms of courses, as a result each student takes a somewhat unique mix of courses depending on their background and interests. That is, there is no one recommended set of courses that works for everyone.
There's a graphical summary of the required courses at: ESS Program Chart
The first ESYS core course isn't until winter term (ESYS 200). This means that Fall term can be used to complete the foundational science courses if you haven't done so in CEGEP (Calc I & II, Linear Algebra, 2 terms of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.). You can also take 2xx level courses that lead into the ESYS courses (ENVR 200/GEOG 203, for example).
Math is an essential tool, and math, like a language, fades if not used. so I encourage taking Calc 3 as soon as possible (MATH 222). Computer programing is also an essential skill (COMP 208 or COMP 202), as is statistics (MATH 203).
There are also intro courses in the individual disciplines: ATOC 214 or EPSC 210 or EPSC 220 fall term.
A FAQ on the EPS department webpage that applies mostly to ESS students as well.
I'm be happy to chat with you over Zoom of you'd like. The first week or two of September (depending on distancing, etc.) there will be an orientation for new students and you'll hopefully get to meet other majors and profs in person!
